#9 A Rival Arrival

A Rival Arrival

This was one of many strips drawn while listening to the Savage Lovecast.

Eskimo’s dialogue in the final panel is lifted almost directly from the 1988 Scarlet Pimpernel with Anthony Andrews (the first talk bubble, not the second one, heh). (As far as I know, the dialogue did not originate in the books; it wasn’t in the first one, anyway. Maybe it’s in El Dorado.)

Nice freaking boats in this strip. I must have had reference pictures. Man, this puts my current art to shame.

The Script

(Night. Lance comes on deck.)
ESKIMO: Lance, tell Krys there’s competition for the title of cutest pirate.
LANCE (pointing out to sea): Sure there is. How about her?
(We see a ship passing by across an expanse of water, an adorable tiny pirate girl perched near the figurehead. Bubbles and stars appear, and she winks and goes, “Tee hee!”)
ESKIMO (staring at the cute pirate, and putting a hand on Lance’s shoulder): Lance, listen carefully. Our very survival may depend on your ability to carry out my instructions. I need a pink bunny suit and a giant lollipop, stat.
LANCE: Ay ay, Captain.
